Dear Praying Friends,
It’s hard to believe we have been back in school for six weeks already! Mid-term break is this weekend and then we are on the “home-stretch” of this school year, looking toward the BIG FINISH on July 14. Here is a summary of this term’s highlights so far:
GO, GO, JONAH!
Hannah was very excited to have a speaking part in this year’s 5th/6th grade musical. She was one of the six students who were on a guided tour in the “Museum of the Bible”. The 48 member choir did a fabulous job with singing, choreography, and dramatizing the amazing story of Jonah.

SIMPLE EXCELLENCE
Rachel was happy to be a part of this year’s Band Tour, which was entitled “Simple Excellence”, based on I Corinthians 13. In just three days, the 70 members of Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band performed six concerts to schools and churches in the greater Nairobi area. The Nigerian Ambassador was in attendance at one of their concerts! As well as performing a variety of musical selections, several members of the band shared testimonies throughout the concerts and everyone had many opportunities to share the Light of Jesus with Kenyan school students. These kids have amazing opportunities for ministry all around us!
SOPHOMORE RESTAURANT

Do you remember reading about our BIG Sophomore Valentine sale last term? THIS term, our big fundraising event is a restaurant. The kids chose “China” as their theme and have been very busy meeting in various committees (decorations, tables, entertainment, food, babysitting, sales, and side café) planning for the big event. We have already “sold out” of tables and will be serving just over 200 juniors, seniors, and adults on June 11. The class also decided to make “take-out” available, as well as have a “side café” for those who don’t attend the restaurant. Babysitting, of course, will also be provided by members of our class. The meal will be served family style and will include: dumplings, egg drop soup, fried rice, boiled rice, sweet and sour pork, beef and broccoli, orange chicken, shanghai stir-fry, and mango sorbet with fortune cookies for dessert! Not only sounds delicious, but also sounds like a lot of work!
Please keep these things in prayer as we continue through this term:
- AP Calculus Grading: Brian will be flying back to the U.S. this Thursday and return to Kenya again on June 17 (missing our big sophomore restaurant…but…returning just in time for Missy’s birthday)! He will spend a few days in PA before heading on to Kansas City, MO on June 7, for a week of grading AP Calculus exams. PRAY for safety in travel, time with family working through some important decisions, and another positive experience grading exams.
- Sophomore Restaurant: There are still many, many things that need to be done before our Chinese restaurant on June 11, the least of which is grocery shopping! PRAY that we would stay organized, remember important details, and above all, continue to build solid relationships with the sophomore class.
- Health: Micah has been sick throughout the month of May with both parasites and a bad sinus infection. Because his tummy is still bothering him after the initial treatment, we are trying another type of medication to rid his body of these nasty parasites. He has missed quite a few days of school and has really been miserable. PRAY for complete healing.
- Class of 2011: This year’s senior class of 71 students will be heading to the coast for their annual “Senior Safari” on Friday. They will be gone for five nights. It’s a time for them to have fun together as a class and begin the emotional process of saying goodbye, not only to their friends, but to Africa as well. PRAY for good conversations, mending of broken relationships, laughter, tears, and wise decisions.
- Leadership: The end of this school year brings a change in leadership to RVA as our newly appointed superintendent, Mr. Tim Hall, will step-in. PRAY for a smooth transition and good working relationships among the administrative team and staff.
We’re so thankful for YOUR part in the ministry here at RVA through your faithful prayers!
You are a blessing to our family!
Brian, Missy, Rachel, Hannah and Micah
